Colchester City Council is delighted to confirm that leading cinema operator Vue is coming to Colchester Leisure Park, following the signing of a lease agreement that marks a major milestone in the development of the Northern Gateway site.
Vue, the largest cinema exhibitor by market share in the UK, will take over the vacant cinema unit after a previous deal with Cineworld fell through in 2024.

Top restaurant chains including Nines and Taste of Italy will be setting up shop at a new development to the north of Colchester.
Developer Turnstone Estates has secured five new restaurants for Northern Gateway Leisure Park – also including El Guaca, Kaspa’s and Slim Chickens.
The £70m park on a 10-acre site on the northern fringe of the city off the A12 at junction 28 is currently under construction.
It will include a 12-screen Cineworld, a 20-lane bowling alley operated by Hollywood Bowl, a 90-bed Travelodge and a Puttstars’ adventure golf centre being built.

Insurance and financial services company, Canada Life, has agreed to forward fund Turnstone Estates £65 million leisure development in Colchester’s Northern Gateway. As part of the deal Colchester Borough Council has taken an over-riding lease on the scheme with a full buy-back of the Leisure Park at the end of the term for £1. This will allow the council to manage future leisure provision within the town with outright ownership after 35 years.

One of the country’s most exciting new leisure developments has got the go ahead after Colchester Borough Council granted planning consent for Turnstone Estates’ £50m Northern Gateway scheme in Colchester
Set to open in 2022/3, the 200,000 sq ft project will provide a 12-screen Cineworld cinema (with Superscreen and 4DX), a Hollywood Bowl bowling centre, a Puttstars indoor mini-golf centre, a Jump Street run climbing centre; seven restaurants, two drive thru restaurants and a 90-bed hotel. In addition to parking for 750 cars, the scheme will have several electric car rapid charging points.

Turnstone Estates has agreed two further major pre-lets at its Northern Gateway leisure development in Colchester, following a deal with Hollywood Bowl Group to operate a bowling and indoor mini-golf centre.
Hollywood Bowl Group, has signed 25 year leases on two units totalling just under 50,000sq ft. It will operate ground floor unit L4 (25,000 sq ft) as a bowling centre for its Hollywood Bowl brand and first floor unit L1 (24,000 sq ft) for its new Putt Stars mini-golf brand. Turnstone has a development agreement with landowner Colchester Borough Council for development of the 10-acre site, which will be anchored by a 12-screen cinema with Superscreen and 4DX, operated by Cineworld.
Other leisure pre-lets have been signed with Travelodge and Jump Street for a climbing centre. Work is expected to start on site in early 2021, with completion scheduled for mid 2022.

Colchester Borough Council has appointed the contractor to carry out repair works to Jacks that will enable local business Three Wise Monkeys to move in and operate their pint-sized micro-brewery in the town centre.
Initial phase of the development comprises 76 acres of innovative and exciting sports and leisure facilities.

The group, which has headquarters in Harwich, has now committed an extra £30m with a new multi-temperature distribution centre opening in the Colchester area – which will create at least 85 jobs – and a new snacking company and brand in Harwich, which will create a minimum of 30 positions.
