£100m new link road A120 A133 Aug 2019

£100m Infrastructure funding is welcome investment in North Essex

A £100m funding announcement by the Government for North Essex has been welcomed by the councils behind the bid.

Essex County Council, supported by Colchester, Tendring and Braintree councils, applied to the Housing Infrastructure Fund (HIF) for cash to support a new road linking the A133 in east Colchester to the A120.

The road is an integral part of plans by the four councils for a new garden community to the east of Colchester – providing both private and public transport links from it to Colchester, the A120/A12 and further afield to Stansted Airport – and would also help to alleviate local traffic too.

Garden Community Plans Could Support More Than 21,000 Jobs by 2050

More than 21,000 jobs could be created over the next 30 years across North Essex as a result of proposed Garden Communities, leading economic consultants have said.

Assessing the economic impact as part of new Local Plan evidence set to go before the Planning Inspector later this year, the Centre for Economic and Business Research (CEBR) has set out how, with the right investment, the Garden Communities can play a major role in boosting the North Essex economy through the provision of high-quality business space and the right sorts of homes to support employees.
